An independent Roman Catholic school serving grades preschool through 12, Sacred Heart School is the first school to obtain LEED Platinum certification under the LEED for Schools program. A platinum rating is the highest of four Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification levels.

Santa Barbara Airbus

Santa Barbara (SB) Airbus is a transportation company that has implemented model green business measures in all areas of their operations. They use a water-conserving electric Eco-Power Brush and biodegradable soap when cleaning buses. Their energy and water bills are kept low by using LED lighting, motion detectors, low-flow fixtures, drought resistant landscaping, and a hybrid electric water heater. They installed 134 solar panels on the roof of their headquarters building that should pay for itself in 5-7 years while meeting 75% of their electric power needs.

Sapphos Environmental, Inc.

As an environmental consulting firm, Sapphos Environmental, Inc. has adopted a “walk the talk” philosophy. They have undertaken efforts to implement practical and measurable green building design, construction, operation, and maintenance practices recognized by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program of the U.S. Green Building Council. The firm’s new office building in Pasadena, California serves as a model of sustainable design and has inspired visitors to incorporate green building principles into their own projects.

Seven4One Hotel

The Seven4One Hotel was built with the purpose of creating an environmentally sustainable hotel and reducing the carbon footprint of each guest. The management and staff at Seven4One are dedicated to improving their environmental performance by establishing precise "green" hotel and general business operational policies and procedures. Seven4one is a proud member of the EPA Waste-Wise Partnership and the Green Hotel Association of America. To create a “green” hotel, every aspect from building and infrastructure to hotel operations had to be carefully evaluated.

SHN Engineers & Geologists

SHN prepared its first Sustainability Report using the Global Reporting Institute’s guidelines for small and medium business enterprises. A Sustainability Report often results in both direct and indirect cost savings. In SHN’s case, direct cost savings were modest because their offices are already designed for efficient lighting and heating; electrical use in the California offices is already less than the California Energy Commission’s average for similar buildings and use.
