In evaluating their business operations, Lake Merritt Dental utilized PG&E’s online portal to monitor their energy practices and create goals to reduce usage levels.

Laura Lawson, DDS is a natural dental office committed to providing personalized care in an eco-friendly environment. They are a holistically-minded dental practice that focuses on restoring and enhancing the natural beauty of the patient’s smile by using conservative, non-toxic, state-of-the-art procedures. Their extensive services include cosmetic dentistry, gum care, whitening, fillings, veneers, crowns, bridges, partials, implant tooth restoration, and nutrition workshops and counseling.

Light and Motion Industries

Light and Motion Industries, Inc. is a manufacturing company located in a converted building on Monterey’s famous Cannery Row. They design, market, and manufacture two product lines: high performance bike headlights and high quality underwater video and digital camera housing and lighting. Light and Motion Industries, Inc. has demonstrated its commitment to sustainability by aggressively incorporating recycled materials into their products, purchasing ENERGY STAR® equipment and using green cleaners and solvents.

Manhattan Bread & Bagel is a café and bakery that makes gourmet bagels, crafts artisan breads, and offers wonderful food for any occasion. They are known in the Los Angeles South Bay for providing fresh, high quality baked goods and partnering with local entities to achieve exceptional waste reduction and conservation results.

Marin County

In 2001 Marin County became the first local government to calculate its ecological footprint. With a population of 248,000 people, the footprint measured at 27 global acres per person. This is slightly higher than that of the average American’s footprint at 24 acres.

Menlo-Atherton High School

A group of 16 Menlo-Atherton High School students, from Atherton, CA, created “Behavior Change or Climate Change”, a curriculum used to educate students about harmful greenhouse gas emissions, lasting five weeks. The program consisted of four 50 minute presentations taught to freshmen by fellow upperclassmen on topics like energy efficiency, food, transportation and the subsequent effects on the climate. In the past three years, 16 classes received presentations, reaching over 500 students.

Meridian Pacific, Inc.

One of 26 businesses in a building complex, Meridian Pacific, Inc. stands out as a leader in environmentally-friendly business practices. As a Sacramento Sustainable Business (SSB), Meridian Pacific set out to reduce their energy use, conserve water, reduce waste, support alternative transportation, and reduce work-related travel. One of Meridian Pacific’s main accomplishments includes spearheading a recycling program. When the business discovered their recyclables were being thrown in the trash, they contacted their property manager to build a proper recycling receptacle.

Metro Lighting offers custom lighting solutions fabricated onsite and a gorgeous selection of uniquely designed fixtures in their 3,000 square foot showroom. They are committed to the quality and durability of their products, as well as reusing resources, efficiency in their building, and supporting local businesses.

Midland School

Since 1932, Midland School has embraced a mission of distinguishing needs from wants at the core of its rigorous college preparatory education. Beginning in 2004-05, consecutive sophomore classes have helped to install a photovoltaic (PV) array on campus. As of 2010, the arrays total 20-kilowatt (KW) DC and meet almost 20 percent of the campus’ communal electricity needs.

At their core is their weekly newspaper, published every Thursday since 1988, plus three weekly e-newsletters to over 30,000 subscribers, a website (online since 1996) featuring daily news, arts and entertainment and mobile site.

Natoma Technologies

Natoma Technologies is a Green Business Bureau certified information technology consulting firm and systems integrator. They focus on application development and integration, cloud migration, mobile, and data analytics with mostly public sector clients. In 2015, Natoma Technologies  took an in-depth look at their operations to understand their impact on the environment. They set purchasing policies to buy recycled or reused office furniture, ENERGY STAR equipment, and remanufactured toner cartridges.

New Leaf Biofuel

New Leaf Biofuel (New Leaf) is committed to inspiring global transformation by promoting healthy growth and sustainability within their community. They partner with local restaurants to produce premium biodiesel from recycled cooking oil (like french fry oil) and supply this renewable fuel throughout the region. Their fuel is used in fleets (e.g., San Diego Unified School District) and their sustainable company helps to improve air quality, create green jobs in the community, and reduce petroleum imports.

Nomad Café

In this small but cozy corner café, drinking coffee is good for both you and the environment. Nomad’s owner, Christopher Waters, set out to create “a community center where people can come together, practice whatever it is that they do” with sustainability as a core value. Since the business opened in May 2003, Nomad implemented environmentally-friendly product and material uses as well as solid waste reduction strategies, energy efficiency measures, operation conservation measures, and vehicle pollution prevention policies.
